My mission

My mission is to translate music into visual energy and create artworks that capture the emotion and movement of sound. Through live performances and studio sessions, I aim to turn musical moments into one of a kind paintings that allow people to see and feel music in a new way.

The Proces

Ward Schepman’s work begins long before the first brush touches the canvas. Every painting is created through a ritual that brings him into a state of deep emotional presence. He selects one single piece of music—a song that resonates with the story, the person, or the country behind the artwork—and plays it on repeat, sometimes for hours. As the repetition builds, Ward enters a trance-like state in which the music dissolves into rhythm, memory, and pure emotion

His art does not stop at the surface; it asks to be experienced, not merely seen. For that reason, Ward’s exhibitions always include the songs connected to each painting. Visitors are invited to listen to the track from beginning to end while standing before the artwork. Only then can they come close to the emotional space Ward inhabited while creating it.
If the viewer still does not feel the work—its pulse, its grief, its energy—Ward encourages them to listen again. And again. As many times as it takes for the barrier to fall away and the emotion to land. Because his art is not created to please the eye; it is created to awaken the deepest emotions within you.

Artist Statement

Ward Schepman creates art at the intersection of music and movement. His paintings come to life through music, sometimes during live performances and sometimes in the focused intensity of his studio. Whether he is surrounded by a band and audience or working alone with a single song on repeat, the process is always driven by music. He paints to whatever moves the soul, including world music, classical compositions, house, rock and many other styles. While the music plays, he builds texture, rhythm and color in real time, guided entirely by sound.

He works with thick layers of acrylic and extra heavy gel, creating expressive and almost sculptural surfaces. Nothing is planned in advance. Every gesture follows basslines, drum patterns, melody and the emotional atmosphere of the music. Music acts as his metronome, his energy source and his creative partner.

The result is artwork that is not only seen but felt. Each piece carries the pulse of a concert or the emotional depth of a studio session, captured through texture and color. Every painting is unique and created in a single moment of performance, never repeatable and never reproducible.

Schepman is internationally recognized as a Music Driven Performance Artist, an artist who does not simply paint but performs. His works are not memories of music. They form a continuation of the sound itself.
